Alateen Policy

Per the Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual, Southern California World Service (SCWS) has a Policy of Alateen Safety and Behavioral Requirements (ASBR). The ASBR which was most recently passed by a Motion at a Special Assembly on September 26, 2020, can be found on our website at: SCWS ASBR. These are legal requirements, not just suggestions. They include Policies and details for many required Alateen Procedures. Consult the full document for specific details on many Alateen topics.

Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service (AMIAS) have multiple requirements detailed in the SCWS ASBR:

Note: The prospective AMIAS must reply to the background check company’s email requests and provide required background information so that Certification can progress. SCWS ASBR page 13 

Events for Alateen members, meetings, and conventions must adhere to the requirements in the ASBR to be allowed to use the Alateen name. A series of event forms must be submitted and approved on a schedule, prior to any Event. Alateen Event Plan Two Phase Approval Process – SCWS.

Alateen Group Registration for a new Alateen meeting and/or to update group information (including changes for sponsor) is at: Alateen Group Registration / Records Change Form – SCWS. 

Note: Alateen registration is through a separate Process Person, and is not the same process for Al-Anon Group Records. (Guideline G-12 offers additional checklist suggestions when forming new Alateen groups.)

Insurance coverage is provided for Registered SCWS Alateen (and Al-Anon) groups that meet physically (in person). See the Insurance Chapter [Insert Link here when completed] to request a certificate for the meeting facility, when requested by the facility.

District Requirements regarding Alateen for the District Representative (DR) and the District Alateen Liaison (DAL) are found on page 4 in the SCWS ASBR.

Area Alateen Resolution Committee (AARC) serves as the decision-making body for issues pertaining to Alateen. Details are found in the SCWS ASBR pages 10-12 and in a separate section within this Handbook that can also be accessed by clicking this link: Area Alateen Resolution Committee.
